FAQs – Is This Right for Me?

You’ve got questions. Good.

We built Your Side Quest for people who don’t always feel safe jumping in without knowing the rules first.

Here are some of the most common things people ask, and some we wish more people did.

Is this therapy?

Nope. We’re support workers, not therapists.
We use gaming to build trust, confidence, communication, and emotional skills, not to dig into trauma or offer clinical treatment.
But if therapy feels more appropriate, we’ll say so, and help you find someone good.

Do I need a diagnosis?

Not at all.

Whether you’ve been told you have autism, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD,
or nothing at all, we don’t need a label to believe you or support you.

You’re welcome here as you are.

Are your DBS checked?

Yes. 
Our team have enhanced DBS and undergo training before joining our team. 

We are also fully insured and are registered with the ICO.

What games do you play?

Our most popular titles are:
  • Minecraft
  • Roblox
  • Fortnite
  • Sackboy
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
We also offer 18+ games for adults only (strict checks in place).
We’ll always check what games you like and adapt based on comfort, interest, and accessibility.

Will I have the same support worker each time?

Yes. Consistency is a big part of what makes this work.

You'll be matched with a support worker who sticks with you (unless you want to switch — that's allowed too).

Can I meet or chat with someone before booking?

Absolutely. Every journey starts with a free Side Quest Check-In, a no-pressure chat by WhatsApp or phone to see if we’re the right fit.

We don’t do hard sells. Just human conversations.

What if I/my child doesn’t talk much?

That’s okay. Our sessions don’t depend on conversation.

Connection can happen in shared gameplay, silent co-op, or even laughter after falling in lava.

We meet you where you are, no forced small talk required.

Is it safe?

Yes. We take safeguarding, privacy, and emotional safety seriously.
We:
  • Work within strict safeguarding protocols
  • Use secure online platforms
  • Collect emergency contact info before sessions begin
  • Are supervised regularly to ensure safe, ethical support
  • Only work within our professional scope
We’ll also send you a full Welcome Pack explaining everything clearly.

Do you offer free or funded sessions?

Not currently, but we’re exploring options with local authorities and schools.
If you're a professional looking to refer someone or fund a place, contact us directly.

What if I want to pause or stop sessions?

Totally fine.
You can pause or stop anytime. No contracts, no cancellation fees, no guilt-tripping.

Life gets busy. We get it.

Do you work with local authorities or schools?

Yes. We’re happy to collaborate with:
  • Alternate Provisions (APs)
  • Local Authorities
  • Education teams
  • Care coordinators or SEND services

Do you run group sessions?

Not at this time. We focus on one-to-one connection, which allows for personalised support and deeper emotional safety.

But we’re open to exploring small group work in the future, so watch this space.
